poem written saturday morning after the overnight shift

It is December.
I am looking down from a rooftop and watching the city move
with The Father over my right shoulder and the sun rising on my left.

I come up here often to contemplate;
I come to reflect and salvage my sanity with a cup of coffee
and hope for clarity

Somewhere…..there is a bird hovering above a wave in the ocean, say,
somewhere farther than your furthest dream.
Somewhere there is a child smiling, a little girl dances,
a little boy stands between his parents,
reaches up, and he takes both of their hands
to connect the three

Somewhere is the Trinity:
The mind
The Body
The soul

Somewhere is The Father
The Son
and The Holy Spirit.

“As it was in the beginning
is now
and will be forever.”

I smile.
Look up at the sky and think, “The Lord is with you,”
and of course, I imagine a congregation respond,
“And also with you.”
Followed by, “One God, forever and ever.”

It is early.
I watch the cabs head downtown along Lexington.
It occurs to me,
my place in this world is constantly moving.

My spot changes.
I take it; this happens for a reason.

But for now,
I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
And if it were not so,
would He have gone this far to prepare a place for me?

There’s got to be a reason……
