Pulling a Trick – Entry Eight

The mind is an amazing thing. I can say that this is where we live, love, laugh and learn. I can say that this is where we store our memories and keep our secrets. I can say that the mind is the place where we store the arrows which we sometimes use to shoot down our dreams.
We can create and build here, or we can degrade and destroy.
The choice is ours.

The mind. This is the epicenter and the core of us.
This is where we keep our tricks. This is where we store information from our past.
This is where we keep our biases and where we store the assumptions of what is and, of course, this is where we come up with our predictions of what will be.

The mind is our magic hat. We can pull out rabbits. We can make things disappear. We can reflect. We can project. We can become our best friend or our own worst enemy.
Of course, the choices are ours to make. But sometimes, the mind leads us astray.

The mind can lead us to victory, or we can think ourselves into defeat. Although we try and want to be happy, the mind can deceive us or mislead us into predictions of the falls ahead.
We have to be very careful with the narrative we listen to.

But still, I have to say the mind can be a trick. We can think ourselves into the brink of insanity. We can think ourselves into the uproar of travesty and yes, most certainly, we can think our way into being sick or worried, afraid and angry.
If we want to, we can think ourselves to death.

We can run the recordings and tapes in our mind, and we can revisit the unwanted memories, over and over. We can also relive the unhelpful or the unwinnable arguments that came with undesirable endings. We can think about old fights and arguments and we can relive them and rehearse them, as if this were alive again, and happening once more.
We can look to relitigate the past. Or we can change the narrative. We can allow ourselves to utilize one of the best words in the English language.
STOP!

Stop is a magic word.
I promise you.
I swear that “Stop” is a better magic word than hocus pocus, or presto-change-o.

Stop!
Say this out loud, if you have to.
This is the secret to a trick.
Do not interact with the voices from your past or look to relitigate and untangle the old or recent arguments. Stop!
Don’t do this because rethinking and reliving old thoughts and unwanted times can lead to an internal dilemma that is both painful and unrelenting.
We all know not to do this,
yet, we still do.
But why?
Where’s the benefit?

It is clear that the mind is always searching for accountability.  It is clear that anger and resentment can lead us to turmoil. But if the mind lead us to one direction, then the mind can take us in a different direction as well.
If we can think our way into failure, then the mind can think our way to success.

I have no more time for the daily fiascos. However, I am human and I am complete with flaws and mistakes, arguments, and resentments.

I’m thinking about the word “Stop”
I’m thinking about the trick I pull when I allow myself to replace thoughts with action.
I am thinking too much, again, which means now is a good time to get ready for the day.
Now is a great time to put my feet on the ground, and push myself to make a go of it.
Now is a good time to find a better direction.
I am finished. I am through.
So, stop!

Let the old world get behind me.
And let my new life begin.
No one says this easy.
But I’m sure that everyone will agree when I say –
sometimes, this is the only way you can pull off your trick.

Stop!

Don’t think.
Just do.

I got this
(and so do you).
